How to Install Focus Magic for Affinity Photo on Windows

In a future update, Focus Magic will automatically install itself to Affinity Photo's default plugins folder which is: C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Roaming\Affinity\Photo\1.5\Plugins

Until that time, you can manually install it using one of the following methods.

Method 1: Use Affinity's Default Plugins Folder

  1. Download and install the latest version of Focus Magic (if you haven't yet done so)
  2. Go to Focus Magic's program folder which is found here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Focus Magic
  3. Copy the "FocusMagic64.8bf" plugin file (this is the 64-bit version of Focus Magic)
  4. In Affinity Photo, go to Preferences
  5. Click on the "Open Default Folder in Explorer" button, near the top left of the Preferences window, to open the default plugins folder
  6. Paste the "FocusMagic64.8bf" plugin file into the default plugins folder
  7. On Affinity's Prefrences window, check/enable this option: "Allow 'unknown' plugins to be used"
  8. Close the Preferences window, then restart Affinity Photo for changes to take effect

Method 2: Use a Custom Plugins Folder

  4. Paste the "FocusMagic64.8bf" plugin file into your custom plugins folder, or create a new folder if you want to
  5. In Affinity Photo, go to Preferences
  6. In the "Plugin search folders" section, click the "Add" button
  7. Find and add the custom plugin folder you used in step 4
  8. On Affinity's Prefrences window, check/enable this option: "Allow 'unknown' plugins to be used"
  9. Close the Preferences window, then restart Affinity Photo for changes to take effect

It has been noted on Affinity's forum that plugin support is still a work in progress so some technical issues may be encountered when using any plugins with Affinity.
